GERD
I am a 32-year-old female and have recently been "officially" diagnosed with GERD, and I have had heartburn almost daily for about 8 years. I plan to have a baby shortly and am very concerned because I am taking omeprazole, which is the generic form of Prilosec, and I also take almost six Gaviscon daily. The GERD is not always controlled with the medication, but when I don't take the medication at all, my GERD gets so bad I have severe chest pain, my chest feels heavy, I feel like I can't breath, I can't sleep, and I get sick to the point of vomiting. I have been to the emergency room twice in past 6 years because I feel like I am having a heart attack, but they never find anything wrong with my heart or lungs. A specialist has recommended the Enteryx procedure, which I am seriously considering, because during the first 3 trimesters of pregnancy you can't take PPIs because of possible damage to the fetus. I'm worried about having the procedure because it is still kind of a test procedure, but I am really worried about being pregnant because I'm afraid I will be miserable and sick for 9 months. Anyone with a similar situation have any advice?
